The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy adalah buku pertama dari lima seri "trilogi" komedi fiksi ilmiah Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy karya Douglas Adams (buku keenam ditulis oleh Eoin Colfer). Novel ini merupakan adaptasi dari empat bagian pertama seri radio dengan nama yang sama. Novel ini pertama diterbitkan di London tanggal 12 Oktober 1979.[2] Buku ini terjual 250.000 eksemplar dalam kurun tiga bulan setelah diluncurkan.[3]
Judul novel ini diambil dari The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, sebuah buku panduan menumpang fiksi (terinspirasi oleh Hitch-hiker's Guide to Europe) yang ditulis dalam bentuk ensiklopedia.
Adaptasi film
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy diadaptasi menjadi film komedi fiksi ilmiah yang disutradarai Garth Jennings dan dirilis pada tanggal 28 April 2005 di Britania Raya, Australia, dan Selandia Baru, kemudian di AS dan Kanada keesokan harinya. Film ini diluncurkan di seluruh dunia pada bulan Mei sampai September.
Seri
"Trilogi" Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy terdiri dari lima buku: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1979), The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (1980), Life, the Universe and Everything (1982), So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (1984), dan Mostly Harmless (1992). Pada tanggal 16 September 2008, penulis asal Irlandia Eoin Colfer berencana menulis buku keenam. Buku yang berjudul And Another Thing... diterbitkan bulan Oktober 2009 saat ulang tahun ke-30 novel aslinya.[4]
