Marcel François Marie Joseph Lefebvre C.S.S.p., S.S.P.X. (bahasa Prancis: [maʁsɛl fʁɑ̃swa maʁi ʒɔzɛf ləfɛvʁ]; 29 November 1905 – 25 Maret 1991) adalah seorang uskup agung Katolik Roma FPrancis. Setelah berkarier sebagai Delegasi Apostolik untuk Afrika Barat dan Petinggi Umum Bapa Roh Kudus, ia mengambil bagian dalam perubahan Gereja yang dikaitkan dengan Konsili Vatikan Kedua.
Pada 1970, Lefebvre membentuk Serikat St. Pius X (SSPX). Pada 1988, bertentangan dengan larangan dari Paus Yohanes Paulus II, ia mengkonsekrasikan empat uskup untuk melanjutkan karyanya dengan SSPX. Tahta Suci kemudian mendeklrasikan bahwa ia dan uskup-uskup lainnya yang berpartisipasi dalam acara tersebut secara otomatis di-ekskomunikasi dibawah hukum kanon Katolik.[Notes 1] Pada 2009, 18 tahun setelah Lefebvre meninggal, Paus Benediktus XVI menarik status ekskomunikasi dari empat uskup yang masih hidup atas permintaan mereka.[3]
Kehidupan awal dan pelayanan
Marcel Lefebvre lahir di Tourcoing, Nord.[4][5] Ia adalah putra kedua dan anak ketiga dari delapan bersaudara[6] dari pemilik pabrik tekstil René Lefebvre[7] dan Gabrielle, yang lahir dengan nama Watine dan meninggal pada 1938.[5] Ayah Marcel, René meninggal pada usia 62 tahun pada 1944 di kamp konsentrasi Jerman di Sonnenburg (di Brandenburg Timur, Jerman), dimana ia ditahan oleh Gestapo karena keterlibatannya dalam gerakan bawah tanah Prancis dan Intelijensi Inggris.
Orangtuanya adalah penganut Katolik yang saleh yang membawa anak-anak mereka ke misa harian.[6] Ayahnya adalah seorang monarkis terbuka[5][Notes 2] yang menjalankan sebuah lingkaran mata-mata untuk Intelijensi Inggris ketika Tourcoing diduduki oleh pasukan Jerman pada masa Perang Dunia I.[8]
