Album ini menerima banyak respons positif atas musiknya yang mirip dengan musik Ke$ha. Dev mengaku, lagu-lagu dalam album ini terinspirasi dari kisah hidupnya selama beberapa tahun. Di Amerika Serikat, album ini langsung menduduki peringkat nomor 61 setelah terjual 7.560 kopi di minggu pertama rilis.
Dua singel dari album The Night the Sun Came Up, "Bass Down Low" dan "In the Dark", berhasil sukses di dunia musik internasional. "Bass Down Low" menduduki peringkat Top 10 di UK Singles Chart.
